Proof of Concept · Not Production-Deployed
Challenge
Our existing document-generation process relied on licensed tooling. I explored whether Salesforce could generate branded collateral using existing opportunity data, reusable Office templates, and custom logic instead.
A successful replacement could have avoided approximately $10K/year in licensing costs, although the projected savings were never realized because the POC was not deployed.

Prototype interface: Users could initiate opportunity-specific collateral generation directly from Salesforce.

My Role
I broke the workflow into components, worked through the Flow/Apex/XML interactions, tested generated files, debugged failures, and refined the document-generation logic.
I used company-approved Microsoft Copilot as a development accelerator while validating the resulting implementation myself.

TEMPLATE

GENERATED OUTPUT

Template → generated output: The prototype unpacked the Office file, replaced XML placeholders with opportunity-specific content, and rebuilt the PowerPoint.
Technical Implementation
The Apex logic loaded branded PowerPoint and Word templates from Salesforce static resources, unpacked the Office packages, updated XML placeholders, rebuilt the files, and saved the results back to Salesforce.

→ ZipReader
→ XML replacement
→ ZipWriter
→ ContentVersion
→ ContentDocumentLink

Validation
I tested generated files against different opportunity/value-message content and debugged issues involving HTML-to-text conversion, placeholder replacement, Office XML, and file reconstruction.
Outcome
The POC demonstrated that Salesforce could generate and attach branded Office collateral without relying solely on the existing Nintex DocGen workflow. Generation took roughly 2–3 minutes, but the prototype was not ultimately shipped to production.
